‘Sec 10 Foundation is a registered charity and it really came into existence to help assist people who need advice of a legal nature and to be able to access services which may be very difficult to access due to either lack of finances or lack of facility. Our objective in creating this charity is as follows:
The relief of financial hardship for the public benefit in such parts of the UK as the trustees shall from time to time determine by the provision of free legal advice and assistance to persons who through lack of means would otherwise be unable to access such services.
This is clearly the aim and purpose of Sec 10 Foundation.
Legislation has created important rights for individuals. One such example of an important right is under Section 10 of the Employment Relations Act 1999. It provides that an employee or worker can choose to have a specified companion of their choice accompany them where it is a formal Disciplinary or Grievance meeting. It is not always easy to access a service like that easily and there is a cost attached to it which not everyone can afford to pay, especially where finances are limited and you are unfortunate to have a hand-to-mouth existence. Our aim here at Section 10 Foundation charity is to provide support in the way of advice, preparation of statements, where possible and it is assessed there be a real need, provided of course we have funds available and have enough money raised as a charity to enable us to provide support. This will be entirely at the Charities discretion and provided the threshold on merit and financial tests are passed.
We think back to the time twenty years ago. Had a charity like Sec 10 Foundation existed twenty years ago when the Post Office/Horizon/Post Masters situation happened, they may at least have been able to access vital help and support. Often like the Post Masters, many of them who at the time lost their livelihoods by the Post Office’s aggressive intervention, jobs lost by a bread winner of the family can affect the whole family unit creating sometimes dire consequences of financial hardship. This can be very hard on the family, especially children. So we believe it is vital that where there is a real need which we assess there to be then we aim to do our best to provide support
Sec 10 Foundation has been founded to address such matters in life as they do happen and to assist with support where, funds permitting, we are able to help.
